uhiuus naisterahva jalgratas Masovia, 1940/41
#1

Ratas on valmistatud 1940. aastal või 1941. aasta algul Saksamaal (Preisimaal). Teatud andmetel (mis pole küll 100% kindlad) on ratas müüdud Eestis Saksa aja algul 1941. või 1942. aastal vastava loa alusel (sel ajastul just väga palju tsiviilrattaid siin müüki ei sattunud).

Teatud põhjusil on ratas säilinud kasutamata peaaegu uhiuuena, v.a. algsed kleidivõrgud, rehvid, kell ja pump. Need neli ajastutruu asja sai rattale külge monteeritud väikese korrastamise käigus, mis sai ette võetud vahetult enne Eesti Jalgrattamuuseumi 9. juuli vanajalgrattaparaadi Paides (kus see ratas ühena paljudest osales).

Muus osas on ratas tollele ajale tüüpiline - küljelaiendustega kroomitud veljed-porilauad laia kesktriibuga, must triipkaunistustega raam koos kiirekujuliste esiosa kaunistusrega, 28" Westwood-tüüpi veljed rantäärisega rehvide jaoks. Eripäraks on rattalukk (firmalt Hebie), mis on ühitatud tagumise vabajooksu pidurisabaga. Raaminumbriks on 66435. Vändad kinnituvad keskjooksu võllile kiiludega, ketiratta muster (viie ringiga) on sarnane 1930ndate lõpu Saare tehase naisterahvaratastel kasutatutega. Tagarumm on Torpedo-tüüpi, esirumm ja pedaalid Unionilt.

Alljärgnevad fotod on tehtud vahetult peale Paide Vanajalgrattaparaadi 9. juulil:

Hetk tagasi sain teada, et Masovia on valmistatud Königsbergis, tollases Ida-Preisimaa pealinnas. Tänud Janisele Lätist teabe eest!

Milline vastikult ilus eksemplar jällegi!
Kaelamuhvid, kandilised kaelalaagrikausid ja kaheksakandiline lenksu kontramutter tuletavad vägisi Victoria Werket meelde?

Diagnoos: ahvivaimustus. Sümptomid: põhjendamatu optimism.

Ei ole välistatud, et Königsbergis olev väike töökoda/tehas kasutas mitmeid Saksa emamaalt (millest oldi peale 1919.a. Versaille' lepingut Poola Koridoriga eraldatud) imporditud detaile.

Raske öelda. Teavet Masovia kohta napib, sest Saksamaa jaoks on see maa-ala (Preisimaa) kaotatud ning 1944-45 toimus evakueerumine üli-kiirustades, st hävisid ja/või jäid ripakile paljud arhiivid, dokumendid jms.

Hello, please excuse my writing in english, I am from Germany. I have two Masovia bikes. One lady's bike comes from Estonia and is very similiar to the one in Väästa Museum. ( see picture)
I am researching the History of Masovia bikes and their manufacturer the Todtenhöfer Company in Königsberg.
Please see my homepage: http://masovia-todtenhoefer.jimdo.com/ The homepage is not finished, but has already a lot of pictures. It is only german, but I hope you can translate it with google translater tool-

I already know that Masovia bikes were sold in Estland from 1939 - 1940 from Kr.Saar & Ko Company in Talinn. Are there more Masovia bikes existing in Estonia ? This is very interesting for me. In my homepage I made a list with all known / surviving Masovia bikes.

I have a question about the bike in the picture from tolmuahv: Do you have more pictures of it ? It seems to be also a Masovia bike ?

Thanks and best regards

Hello Andreas. I saw your Masovia before it was shipped to you, very nice bike. Your bike is from same place and from same family as my mens Royal Enfield. Those 2 bikes were found in Tallinn, Nõmme.

In tolmuahvs foto is Victoria Werke bicycle, some details are similar to Masovia and theory was, that Masovia factory may have bought some details from other factories.

There are 2 Masovia bicycles in a 41/42 list (frame numbers 39877 and 45916). Those are bikes that people were looking through local newspaper (Saaremaa newspaper) ads because military confiscated those or they were lost for some other reason.

Otherwise I think I have seen few Masovias more in private collections but thats it.

Hallo, Andreas, welcome to Automoto!
We have a list about stolen bicycles in Estonia 1933-36, no Masowias were mentioned. I remembered that we have a frame with Todtenhöfers label on the rear fender, I will check it.

Thank you all very much for the nice welcome here!
@s2si:
thank you very much for the interesting informations! So it was found in Talinn, Nõmme. If I understand correctly it was found in a house after it was sold. Both bikes (your Royal Enfield, and the Masovia) are in an incredible condition! These bikes must have been stored there for ages and very protected!
Interesting also about the Victoria Werke bike. Some details are indeed similiar. But I recognized this already with some other bikes from german production. The sleeves ? ("Muffen" in german) are similar to bikes from the manufacturer "Falter" from Germany.  In fact, the Todtenhöfer Company bought the individual parts and pipes from other manufacturers in Germany and then soldered, painted and completed them in their factory in Königsberg. I did an Interview with an ex Worker at Todtenhöfer, who described and confirmed this to me.  Soon I will publish my report about the History of Todtenhöfer / Masovia on my homepage and also in a german old bikes magazin.
Interesting that at least a few Masovia bikes survived in Estonia! In Germany these bikes are very seldom. Of course, the main sales area of this bikes (Eastprussia) is now far away from Germany. But also in nowaday Poland not many Masovia bikes seem to exist anymore. And from Kaliningrad Oblast not much is known about old bicycles there.

@Kass: Thanks, nice to see you here, too! I already saw a bike with the Todtenhöfer badge in polish Internet. You can see the pictures also here: http://masovia-todtenhoefer.jimdo.com/to...B6fer-rad/
I assume these Todtenhöfer bikes are pre-Masovia. Because Masovia bikes started in 1929. But Todtenhöfer existed as a wholesaler since 1901 or even earlier since 1895, this I am not sure about. It would be interesting to know from when are this Todtenhöfer bikes. Maybe you can get some information about the frame number or year of the rear hub ?

@Rimsi: :-)

I have also one question about the number plate that was mounted on the Masovia bike:
[Pilt: 27503857vq.jpg]
Was this originally mounted on this bike ? Or was it added later? The plate is from 1933, but the bike itself is from 1940. Does this match ? Could these number plates forwarded to other bikes?

Thank you very much!!

Regards

Andreas

The number plate is not originally mounted, every year the bikes got a new number after the owner had paid a year-tax.
The Todtenhöfer label on rear fender is only frame, no wheels, maybe there is only the fender from Todtenhöfer, I will check it. Also sometimes we find some unknown frames with serial numbers XXXXX (five numbers) and it is always hard to find out who has made it, perhaps now we can find some Masovias among them.
One more thing - about the Kilometerzähler on Your bike - I was wrong, it is not soviet production, it only looks like the soviet one (the lion or what animals picture/logo, this is not soviet, perhaps it is original).

Ok, thank you very much again for the informations! Yes, Masovia numbers are mostly 5 numbers (XXXXX), only from 1943 onwards they went to 6 digits. And all Masovia bikes I have seen so far, always have the same "Steuerkopf"

You mean this "Kilometerzähler":
[Pilt: 27506425hh.jpg]

I don't know if it is original. Maybe someone here has seen it before? EDIT: It is a Loewe Kilometerzähler from Germany.

So, we have found 2 more Herren Masovias frames. Frame-numbers are 39332 and 95639. The last one has rear fender with the Todtenhoefer label and seems, that there have been "an ordinary" casted Masowia SKS too (have the holes for SKS). Both frames have "ordinary Masovias" "Steuerkopf". Will send some photos on Your e-male.
