IZH JUPITER 3-K 1979
#1

Hello everybody,
I was given a IZH Jupiter 3 K as a 50 years gift, a few years ago. It is allmost complete but in need of a fundamental restoration. As IZH never was imported to Sweden, it is impossible to find spare parts here. What I am looking for is parts for the front fork and a spare part handbook. Can anyone out there help me, or point me in the right direction?

Thanks a lot!

this should help you a little. I have IZ Jupiter 3 (1973), and I have it's factory manual also. The bad thing is it's in russian.
In Estonia there are couple of stores that may help find the right parts.
www.hot.ee/motopood (in Tallinn) fot example.

Thank you every one!
I have the workshop manual since before, in Russian, German, French and English, but it was verry verry good to finally find a spares catalogue. I have found pictures are allways in Swedish..Wink.

IZH was never imported officially to Sweden, so it is impossible to find spares here. I am willing to pay "Finder´s reward" to anyone who can help me find good used or new parts for the restoration. I speak not a word of Estonian, so I can use some help.

I need parts for front fork - inner tube and upper/outer tin tube. Headlamp chrome ring, carburator cover, silencers or silencer end pieces only, stearing brake knob, .

Pictures of the parts are necessary because there are lots of small differences between models. If you need silencers and tubes, you should think about replicas as it is cheaper than restoring them all yourself. Carburator covers should be the last things you need if you want to drive your IZ.
I suggest that you make pictures, take needed measurements, put list together, make calls to some motorcycle spare parts shop in Tallinn and come to collect your needed parts. Print out pictures and measurements and take them with you if you come to Estonia.

One more try, last time I added  the pictures everything went berserk...
My bike is a lot like yours,Ermo. I think it has been upgraded with a JU-4 engine at some time, the engine number points to that, I think...
The Front fork has had some bad dammage end been straighetened out by hand with a hammer(!), you can see every blow of the hammer.
Silencers have home made end caps with some strange extentions. The left side silencer has some bad dents, the right side silencer is OK.

I have for two years tried to make contact to anyone in Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia, not a single answer until now. I am verry happy for your help.

There seems to be a limit to the attachments, 2 maximum? I´ll be back with more.

Best regards
Anders

It's Jupiter 3-01, transitional model between JU-3 and JU-4.

Compared to common 3, it has seat, front mudguard, silencers, rear suspension and engine (still with old 6V generator, but already 28hp) from JU-4.

Has it got a 6V or a 12V electric system?
If your Jupiter's engine has 12V system, the bike has presumably been upgraded with a JU-4 engine.

Nice project you have there.
It has most original pieces also.
You really need to get new fork for it, it's much easyer than repair your old one.
Do you know also the way how and why the bike got in to Sweden?

Here is a little bit more information about IZ motorbikes.

My bike is pretty much pure IZ jupiter 3k (1973)
It looked like this http://forum.automoto.ee/attachment.php?aid=22447 at first. Now it's my everyday riding bike and looks like
new shape this.

Verry good, N2O.
You gave the last bit in the identification of this bike. I have actually suspected it could be a kind of transitional model, at least I thought it was an early JU-4 engine. It has 6V/45W generator. Is it possible to fit the later 12V system without any or small modifications? Can I fit the electronic (JU-5?) system?
I have a long history with JAWA and CZ engines, and I have installed MZ-B (www.mz-b.de) electronic ignition in all of them. Verry good, a bit expensive but worth every penny. 12V/ 150W is verry good to have, especially if you have a sidecar with some extra lights.

28 HP! WOW, my Monark-JAWA 350cc only has 21 HP... I am verry excited to get this bike on the road. I suppose the power is needed for pulling the sidecar in a decent speed.

So, can anyone help me find a good used front fork? I have tried to contact some MC stores in Estonia before, but they have never answered. I think the best place to find what I need is a junkyard or someone who trades with old parts for old bikes.
I am in no hurry, really, but of course I would be glad to go forward with the restoration. My plan, or hopes, is to have it on the road this spring, ride it through the summer and take it apart and repaint it next winter.
Please write me on my personal e-mail if you have something to offer, or want to help me find what I need.

*Front fork complete or parts
*Headlamp crome ring
*Stearing brake knob
*Silencers, or silencer end caps; tip where to find replica silencers
*Footrest rubbers
*Handle rubber grips
*Carburator cover panels
* possibly more... are tyres expensive in Estonia?

Merry Christmass to you all!

Best regards
Anders

Here is one guy who sells IZ parts, mabe you can find here something you need. Here is owners email motolammutus@hot.ee . I am not sure that he understand English but sure you can try Smile.
The other good store is near to Tallinn Television Tower. They have a lot of new parts. They don't check mail I know that. But the website for them is www.hot.ee/motopood
Tel: +372 623 8246
Fax: +372 623 8246
And they sure answer the phone.
There you can get the tires too, cost about 600-700 Estonian krouns ~ it's aboute 30-50 euros.
There is one more that kind of a store. But they dont have website. Adress is Tondi 44.
There is atleast two stores in Tartu also http://www.hot.ee/brauermoto/
http://www.hot.ee/raadimoto/

One in Saaremaa.
http://www.varuosad.ee/ <--this is the most close store for you, there are tonns of IZ parts, write or even better, call the owner. Prices could be a bit expencive but you never know.

Best regards

Ermo

The one in Saaremaa - it has awful prices for foreigners...
The front fork costs 219 SEK there, so it's not very much, if the fork is ok, but probably it has leaky gaskets, what aren't expensive.
I believe that whole headlight doesn't cost more than 80 SEK (the headlight in the link below doesn't fit your bike).
If you're interested, I can test, clean and take some fotos of the forks(that's not the only one) and stuff. The shop is 5km from me and I'm going there this week (Sorry madeinussr, I haven't had time yet but holiday is comingSmile)

Thanks every one for your tips and support. I have ordered the front fork + a few other things from http://beta.album.ee/user/16835392, now I just sit and wait for answer...
I have had the cold sholder before when trying to order parts, so if things go bad, maybe I can ask one of you to buy the things for me and send them to Sweden?
In due time...
First have a Merry Christmass!

Thanks for asking Ermo, all the holidays are not over, so I am still waiting for an answer on my order. Though, I have not put all my eggs in the same basket, so meanwhile I have found a NOS, never used, complete front fork in Holland, to a good price considering it is brand new and does not need any restoration. The other parts are still on my "wanted" list...Maybe I will allso need a rear swing bolt + bushings.

Happy New Year to you all!
