GT kirjutatakse tänapäeval igale junnile peale, millele rattad päris risti alla pole monteeritud, kuid algne tähendus on itaaliakeelne Gran Turismo, mille all mõeldakse kestvusvõidusõiduks (nagu näiteks 24 Heures du Mans) kohandatud autot.
